Pattern Mixing With a Plaid Skirt
Now that fall is in full swing let’s start talking more about plaid, boots, fabrics and coats. Today’s focus is a plaid skirt.
If there is one pattern that emanates the essence of fall is plaid. This classic pattern style can be seen everywhere from scarfs, pants, coats, skirts, etc. If you don’t have something pattern in your fall wardrobe I suggest looking for an oversized plaid scarf to start with. I found my perfect plaid scarf last year. Of course find it in a color you like best but I suggest something traditional such as red, green, or gray.
Since it’s still pretty warm this plaid mini skirt is perfect for transitional weather. In this outfit I wore the plaid skirt with a striped long sleeve shirt, denim jacket and ankle booties. A plaid skirt is the perfect palette for pattern mixing. Try wearing a plaid skirt with stripes, leopard, or a different color plaid piece. I decided to pair the dark green plaid skirt with stripes and spotted ankle boots.
Wearing a plaid skirt doesn’t have to feel like you’re going to prep school or dressing up as Cher from Clueless. If this is a style you want to avoid don’t pair your plaid with a prep blazer or white button down. Instead wear “cooler” pieces that will show off your personal style and bring the skirt from school girl to uber chic.
Pair your plaid skirt with a leather bomber or boyfriend cable knit sweater for a too cool fall outfit. Or wear your plaid skirt with a sexy lace cami, black leather jacket and moto boots for a sexy tough look. Consider pairing your skirt with a light cream sweater, black polka dot tights, black ankle booties and a dainty cross body for pretty fall outfit. There are tons of ways you can style a plaid skirt you just need to start off with the style you want to portray.
I would classify this outfit as casual everyday cool. The denim jacket dresses down the skirt, stripes and spotted shoes show that I have fun with pattern mixing and the boots play up that fall season.
