The Key to Wearing Shades of Blue
When putting together an outfit where you want to incorporate different shades of blue start with main piece you want to wear and then build upon it.
The two important details you need to remember when mixing shades of blue in an outfit:
1. Accessories must pop. In this outfit I went with darker navy heels and a dark contrasting handbag. It keeps the outfit from looking too boring.
2. If you’re wearing shades of blue that are very similar make sure they differ in texture. You don’t want the same color and same texture.
For example, in this outfit I first grabbed that white sequin top with light blue trim. You can’t see in these photos but the back of the shirt is in a sheer light blue. Using that sequin top as a base I started to build upon it.
I wanted to keep the color palette relatively light so I paired the top with a light gray pair of jeans. And gray matches great with blue. I layered another denim item, the cropped light wash denim jacket. I didn’t want to cover up the sequins or the light blue trim detailing so I tied it around my waist. This touch also made the outfit a little casual.
So with the light blue trim, light blue jacket I needed to wear blue shoes in a darker hue. These blue suede ankle strap heels were perfect and I intentionally went with a darker shade of blue so it would pop. The shades of blue theme continued.
Since my outfit was already pretty glitzy with the sequin top I decided to keep my jewelry minimal. I added a pair of large light blue stud earrings and a silver bracelet.
This outfit could have done with my blue ZAC Zac Posen handbag but I didn’t bring it with me to Las Vegas so I wore a dark satchel to contrast the entire outfit.
