Experience a Better Break – the Kona Kai Resort in San Diego

New Experiences in Travel
With Stylishlyme, I’m able to share my particular obsessions with you on a daily basis. Peter has a love for food, wine, travel and continuous learning. When I asked him what my great passions are, he said two words, new experiences. As long as I have fun, exciting, thrilling, adventurous new experiences, I’m a happy camper.
One of the great joys of travel is being able to have new experiences on a daily basis! Traveling brings with it new places to explore and the opportunity to try new things for the first time. I’d argue that receiving the full experience of a new location also has a lot to do with where you stay. Whether resort, hotel, apartment, hostel or home.
Your home away from home adds a lot to your experience. These experiences true of every new place you visit.
A stylish resort with great service and an ideal location will help you discover your new home and “add” to the overall travel experience. A bad hotel or resort will most definitely take away from your vacation.
The Kona Kai Resort in San Diego
While Peter and I were in San Diego, we had the pleasure of calling the stylish Kona Kai Resort our San Diego “home”.
With their stylish accommodations, gorgeous views, a delicious restaurant and indulgent spa this resort added to the new experiences waiting for us in San Diego.
As you walk into the Kona Kai Resort lobby, you know you’re in for a treat. With a mixture of luxe and playful decor; like crystal chandeliers and bright yellow, blue and aqua furniture. The welcoming designs initiates your SoCal vacation state of mind.
The fun details of the lobby are also in the resort rooms. San Diego inspired photography of surfers and waves were hung surround you on the room walls. A large glass door first covered with sheer drapes reveals a peaceful outdoor patio that opens up to the Kona Kai Resort private beach. Yes, a private beach area where you can soak in the sun, admire the view and roast marshmallows in the fire pits in the evening.
Kona Kai Resort Marina
For those of us lucky enough to travel to southern California on a boat, Kona Kai Resort offers marina services. Park your boat on the Kona Kai Marina and stay at the resort at a discount. Enjoy all of the amenities the resort has to offer and take your boat out for a spin whenever you wish.
Kona Kai Resort is located on Shelter Island. Access to the ocean is quick as it’s the marina closest to the open ocean. It’s also one of the few marinas in San Diego with deep enough waters for superyachts!
Kona Kai Resort – Vessel Restaurant
While you’re on vacation, every meal adds to the vacation experience. With anticipation, you order with hopes that it will be the most delicious dish you’ve ever had.
Going to new restaurants while traveling is one of my favorite things. Every restaurant is different and you either love it or you hate it. You tell your friends about how good it was, or you leave an angry TripAdvisor review because the experience was just that bad.
But having dinner at Kona Kai’s Vessel Restaurant was a delight. Nothing but positive reviews here! The food was fresh and savory. My favorite had to be the seafood poke, pictures below. This dish contained a mixture of tuna, salmon, and shrimp! Delicious and pretty too!
Shelter Island
Kona Kai is on Shelter Island in San Diego. A fun fact about Shelter Island; it was a sandbank in San Diego Bay and only visible at low tide, but it was built into the large “island” in 1934. It’s only a few hundred feet wide and 1.2 miles long.
Shelter Island has many boats; small, large and super large! The small island contains four yacht clubs and is known as the destination for superyachts.
The island also has gorgeous running path along the water with views of downtown San Diego.
If you’re planning on visiting San Diego and are looking for the perfect escape from the norm, stay at the Kona Kai Resort. Wake up on the right side of the bed every day of your stay.
Stay Stylish,
-V
