Styling a Striped Dress Shirt for Summer
Channel Your Boyish Style
I love crisp dress shirts. Dress shirts with stiff collars and large bold cuffs. Both have the ability to bring an outfit up a notch, whether casual or for the office.
Along with the chambray shirtdress, that I shared with you yesterday, I also picked up this awesome bold striped dress shirt from Banana Republic. Its dark cuffs pulled me in and it’s fitted structure is what sold me (oh and it’s iron free, triple whammy). I wear these style of shirts to the office but I also like to wear them “casually” when I don’t feel like being in full professional attire.
I wanted the top to be the center of the outfit and taking into consideration that it’s summer I wore it with distressed white denim jeans. My eyes go straight to the shirt then the handbag but for some it might be the handbag then the shirt, and that’s ok. I added the bright handbag because I needed some color in this outfit – especially with this masculine top. I needed to add feminine touches and that’s where the handbag and heels come in.
The entire look is a little boyish with a little feminine and it ended up being pretty balanced. I know I have mentioned an outfit needs to be balanced various times before but it’s what makes or breaks looks. In addition to being aesthetically balanced, it must be personally balanced and by this I mean it’s an outfit that you love because it fits your personal style.
