How To Master the Classic Aztec Cardigan Fall Outfit

Aztec Cardigan – Fall Essential

Fall is only a couple of days away and with it comes so many of my favorite things! Like knits, boots, scarves, cider, crisp walks, holidays, and fall colors. Over the last couple of days, I’ve shared with you different ways to wear this aztec cardigan. This is that last outfit in a three part series about what to wear with an oversized cardigan and next week we move on to the next fall essential.

Today’s outfit is a classic.

The combination of cardigan, tights, boots and a cute shirt is one you see a lot of this time of year. Much advice today focuses on styling an oversized cardigan with tights/leggings. Here is the first thing you need to remember when wearing large sweaters. The bottom half of your outfit must be form fitting. To keep the outfit balanced the more clothing/fabric on top means you’ll need less clothing on the bottom.

Of course with the aztec cardigan being black and white I wore black leggings. I didn’t wear colored or patterned leggings because that would distract from the cardigan.

The next piece to the outfit puzzle are boots. You can really wear any style or color of boots but make sure they’re on the more casual side. Since this is a casual and classic look you wouldn’t want to wear thigh high lace up patent leather boots. You can wear boot with a lower heel in black, brown or even taupe. Just make sure the boots look great with the cardigan your wearing. I went with a kind of rugged pair of boots in brown. The height of these boots are perfect, couple of inches below the knee. I recommend this height and style of boot.

The last essential item to complete the look is the shirt. I recommend a simple solid color shirt. I would stay away from lace, chiffon, ruffles, or anything that would compound the outfit into overwhelming. This is a casual and classic fall outfit and you want to keep it that way. If you’d like to add color, the shirt is the perfect spot to do so.

I’ve been a big proponent of adding color to outfits this year and this fall will be no different. Mustard yellow and olive green are my preferred colors for this outfit. The color also stops this outfit from being too boring or common and the hat is a nice accessory to finish off the look.

Select colors that exude the essence of fall such as gold, green, reds, deep purples, orange, and dark or bright pretty blues.

Add your personal touch with accessories and this fall outfit is complete. My fun accessory was a hat. Yours could also be a hat but think about layering a long necklaces or bracelets.
