A Bird’s Eye View of the Grand Canyon West Rim

Peter’s Las Vegas Birthday
There are a ton of activities that one could do while in Las Vegas. If you’ve been to sin city before you know, it’s hard to decide between shows, casinos, bars, restaurants, etc. But once in Las Vegas have you considered leaving? Hopping on a plane and taking a tour of the Grand Canyon West Rim?
That was exactly what Peter and I did while in Las Vegas. We took an aerial tour over the Grand Canyon West Rim with the help of Vimbly, a website that helps you plan activities, classes & date ideas!
I had been planning Peter’s birthday celebration in Las Vegas, and he has always wanted to take an aerial tour of the Grand Canyon. I went on Vimbly’s website and searched for Grand Canyon tours. They have a lot of options from all day excursions to quick flyovers. Since I had a jammed packed day of fun planned we decided to the tour of the Grand Canyon West Rim in the morning to leave time for drinks, shows, and, of course, a delicious dinner.
The tour was amazing! We had been to the Grand Canyon South Rim before and pledged that we would return soon, and we did.
Grand Canyon West Rim
The distance from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon West Rim is about 125 miles. It would take about 2 hours and 15 minutes by car. Since we went by plane it took about 20 minutes, I think.
On the flight from Las Vegas to the West Rim, we were able to see many very cool views. Like Las Vegas from afar, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead. That amazing photo of below with a dark blue water and an array of browns surrounding it is Lake Mead. That’s one of my favorite photos.
We had headphones on for the entire ride and not only did they muffle the sound, but it also played a recording that taught you about what you were seeing. We learned a lot about the Las Vegas, the area and, of course, the Grand Canyon.
We took this aerial tour of the Grand Canyon West Rim on September. As you can see the Colorado River was brown. Depending on the time of year, you go the river might be different colors. It can be brown, as in our photos, green or blue depending on how much sediment is in the river. That was a fact I found pretty interesting. If you didn’t know that either, awesome you learned something from my blog post. 🙂
The entire experience was truly spectacular. If you on the edge of doing an aerial tour of the Grand Canyon, go for it. You will love it!
I created a video of our experience I shared on my Facebook page. Click the play button below and check it out if you haven’t seen it.
