A Casual Way to Wear A Chambray Shirtdress

Believe it or not, this is my first shirtdress! I can’t believe a shirtdress was never on my must-have list but I’m happy it made it into my summer wardrobe. This shirtdress might have easily became one of my favorite pieces. Aside from the fact that it’s super comfortable, it’s also perfect for the very hot weather we’ve been having here in the valley.

Even though there are thousands of shirtdresses available today, we are going to focus on the chambray shirtdress because that’s what I’m wearing in this post. But the two style tips I will share with you also work for shirtdresses of different patterns, colors, or fabrics.

A chambray shirtdress creates the perfect casual look. Since it’s such a versatile piece it can be dressed up or dressed down. A chambray shirt dress can be worn with cute flats, such as I have in this look, or neutral toned wedges and fun accessories for a summer date night.

The two main things that I considered when I was creating this look was: not to lose my figure and wear appropriate shoes.

At times, shirtdresses can be quite shapeless and your figure can be lost in the boxy shape of the fabric but it can be easily fixed. To accentuate your waist add a belt or a fabric tie. I made sure that the dress I bought already came with it. I like the look of having the fabric tie match the dress so it was something I looked for while shopping for a shirtdress. You can really have fun with this, try belt or ties in different colors or materials. Just make sure it coordinates with the dress.

Additional details I always pay attention to is the length of the dress and the height of the heel. For a casual daytime look, when the hem of the dress is shorter, I tend to prefer flats or sandals. In this look, I went with a pair of super cute polka dot flats. As I mentioned, if this were a dressed up look I would wear a pair of wedges with sparkly bracelets and necklaces.

Also, since that color of the dress and flats were subtle I added a pop of brightness with a handbag.

The most important thing to remember – love your outfit and love how you feel in it. Because nothing will look better on you than a smile.
