Three Denim on Denim Fashion Tips
When I first wore this shirt I paired it with some slouchy shorts and polka dot scarf, that outfit will be on the blog later this week, but I immediately thought that this denim tank would look great with a pair of denim jeans. At first my boyfriend said I was crazy and I couldn’t wear denim on denim but that was because I first tired to wear it with a too similar shade of blue. I was looking like one frumpy mess. I changed the jeans for a darker wash and voila! the denim on denim outfit worked.
I’ve worn denim on denim a few times before but the colors were always very contrast. Like the white denim vest and printed denim skinnies outfit I shared a couple of weeks ago, How I Wear Printed Denim. I also paired a polka dot chambray top with a pair of periwinkle denim pants, I didn’t share this outfit on my blog but you can see it on Facebook.
Since I’ve grown a liking to this denim on denim trend, I’ve come up with a couple of fashion tips that you can apply when rocking the denim.
1. Pair Two Different Shades of Denim
One of the easiest ways to pull off the denim on denim look is to wear two different colors/washes. Pair a dark wash denim with a light one, like I did in this outfit and you’ll look casually chic.
2. Wear Denim in Unexpected Pieces
Since denim is always popular you don’t have to keep it restrained to a denim jacket or denim pants. You can find denim everywhere. Consider trying a denim skirt, vest, shorts, and even a denim bralette. Yes, it’s denim galore. For example, consider the combinations of a cropped bralette with a high-waisted skirt or a cropped vest with low-rise skinnies.
3. Don’t Go Overboard with the Denim
The tricky part about wearing denim on denim is not going overboard. You wouldn’t want to wear a denim button down with denim pants and a denim jacket and especially if they are the same wash. If you want to be daring and wear denim of the same shade try it in small amounts, by this I mean wear denim shorts with a denim vest or short-sleeved top. Balance the proportions and you won’t be overpowered by denim.
So, I would love to know, have you tired a denim on denim look?
