How to Wear a Wool Gentleman’s Hat

Everywhere I look I’m seeing hats, maybe it’s because I have been wanting one for a while but be that as it may hats have seen a resurgency. In my quest to find my gentleman’s hat I created a Pinterest board, Tip Your Hat, to collect all of my hat inspiration. This gray wool panama hat was the perfect addition to my fall wardrobe.

When walking into a room with a gentleman’s hat you’ll certainly get noticed. But like me in these photos you’ll be able to hide beneath the brim of your hat. The key to buying the perfect gentleman’s hat is to feel comfortable in it and the key to looking good in a gentleman’s hat is to be confident wearing it.

I would classify this coat as my perfect black overcoat, it fits like a glove. I love the big black buttons, large lapels and that its double-breasted. As much as I stress on the fact that your clothes need to show your personality, it’s also very important to have your wardrobe essentials, like a statement coat. An overcoat is probably one of the most important pieces in your closet. You’ll wear it during the cold months for years, unless you have a budget for unlimited overcoats. If you’re going to be spending big bucks on a coat make sure to buy a classic, like a long, belted wool coat, in a neutral shade.

Depending on your figure and style go with either single or double-breasted. Personally, I love double-breasted coats, they have that military feel and can look very chic. But keep-in-mind that double-breasted styles do add another layer and if you don’t feel like you’re going to be comfortable with that additional bulk choose a single-breasted.

Have you found your perfect fall hat? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Stay Stylish,
