Summer in San Diego

July in San Diego represents the California cool summer that many people from all over the world come to experience. Picture kids in board shorts and bikinis on penny boards and beaches filled with families and friends playing rally ball.

Although I have lived in Calif all my life, I’ve only had the opportunity of going to SoCal less than a handful of times and each visit was a rush. This July Peter and I truly got to experience summer in San Diego in all its glory.

When we decided we were going to spend the last week of July in San Diego, I jumped on my computer and search “things to do in San Diego.” I exclaimed to Peter let’s go paddle boarding, sailing, to Sea World and the zoo, let’s go hiking and to the highest rooftop lounge on the West coast. Of course, we would never be able to do all of these things within a week so we narrowed down the list to a few.

Paddle Boarding San Diego

The activity I selected to do while we were in San Diego was paddle boarding. The only other time I experienced paddle boarding was in Newport Beach, which was a lot of fun, so I wanted to do it again.

I looked up different paddle board rental shops and where in San Diego we should paddle board.

We rented our paddle boarding from Surfari Surf School in Mission Beach. We found the company via GroupOn for a superb deal. We rented two paddle boards for 24 hours for less than $50, incredibly affordable.

I thought we would paddle board in the ocean, but the waves convinced me otherwise. So we went to the Bay said of Mission Beach where everyone else was also paddle boarding and I soon realized why.

The weather was warm, there weren’t huge waves knocking you down and the views are pretty gorgeous. Along with paddle boarders, there were small sailing boats, kayaks, and other water sports going on in the bay.

I have to admit I don’t have much balance, it’s something I’m working on. I successfully stood up for about a good five minutes then sat back down. It was more like sit down paddle boarding instead of stand up.

After getting a few nice shareable pictures, we put all our stuff in the car and went around the bay. Our friends were joining us so Peter and I shared a paddle board and our friend with his girlfriend shared the other. We took turns who would paddle and who would relax. It took us about 40 minutes to make our way around the bay. I got a pretty good tan. 🙂

If you’re in San Diego in the summer, I highly suggest you try paddle boarding! You can check out Mission Beach where we went or you could also paddle board in Coronado Island, Shelter Island or La Jolla. All of them are excellent locations for some fun in the sun!

Stay Stylish,
-V
