How to Wear a Sheer Blouse to the Office
When getting dressed for the office, the first thing that comes to mind might not be a sheer blouse or shirt but you can make sheer appropriate for the office.
The first thing you need to consider when wearing a sheer blouse is the undershirt. When selecting an undershirt find a color that is close to the color of the sheer blouse.
For example, I recently shared an outfit where I wore a sheer fuchsia blouse and the undershirt was a matching fuschia tank top. I did the same thing with this look. The tank top under the sheer blouse is white to match the white sheer color of the blouse. You can also wear a nude camisole that resembles the color as your skin tone, it’ll disappear under the sheer blouse.
The color of your undershirt is very important because you want it to be understated and color coordinated. If you were to wear a white sheer blouse with a navy blue undershirt it would stick out like a sore thumb – nothing subtle about that.
The look you’re going for when wearing sheer blouses to the office: subtle, modest but modern, and stylish.
The second thing to consider are the trousers or skirt that you’ll pair with the blouse. Since sheer blouses are very light and flowy you want to wear a bottom that is form fitting. A form fitting skirt will contrast the loose fit of the blouse and make the outfit look more put together.
I went with a fun patterned pencil skirt in black and cream. The structured lines in the skirt also add structure to the overall look and really elevates the sophistication of the look, making it appropriate for the office.
The finishing touches; A nude pump and a bright pop of color.
Quick hair tip: When you’re short on time and you’re hair prep isn’t complete put your hair in a low ponytail. As a nice added touch, elevate a simple low ponytail by pulling the ponytail through the hair tie to make a quick and easy hairdo. This hairstyle took me less than 3 minutes, it’s office appropriate and goes really well with this look.
Have you wore a sheer blouse to the office before? If so, I would love to know how you styled it! Let me know in the comments!
